Perfect time for a replay, or first playthrough
Earlier this month, God of War for the PlayStation 4 was patched for the PlayStation 5. The update brought several new features– most notably a locked 60 frames at 4k. Initial impressions of this patch are quite positive with the locked framerate creating a sense of fluidity at the highest graphic fidelity available.
Another feature of this patch are the reduced load times. Near instant loading has been a mainstay on the PC gaming scene since the introduction of the SSD and now NVME drives. Inclusion of these speedy drives are one of the best features of this new console generation. We are all quite spoiled in this sense, as God of War now loads in around half the time as it took originally.
Check out the footage below to see the new patch in all of its crispy, smooth glory.
The clip above is from a New Game+ playthrough, which is why you will see this troll appropriately wrecked.
The new in-game capture functionality is another great update from the previous generation of consoles. We are looking at a 4k capture at 60 frames that tops over 50+ Mbps on the bitrate. Of course the recording isn’t quite hitting the highest specifications of a dedicated capture card, but surely goes above and beyond the PlayStation 4’s capabilities.
Hopefully there is news about the next game in the series soon, as the GOW teaser from September just isn’t enough to hold us over. God of War developed specifically for the PlayStation 5 will be something to behold!
